University of Minnesota-Duluth ACS Colleges Against Cancer Chapter!

Dear Relayer!

This past year you participated in a pretty unique event. Through your college’s Relay For Life you connected cancer survivors together and connected them with cancer information and support. You raised $21,000.00 in monies that go directly towards cancer driven research grants, advocacy initiatives, educational programming and patient services provided by the American Cancer Society. You kept over 300 students and faculty energized and engaged for an entire night while promoting cancer education and awareness. You engaged and educated thousands of donors who made donations to the team members and cancer survivors who participated in the event… in other words you did a lot.

With that said, your event still hasn’t reached the $22,000.00 it needs to hit its 2008 goal and support all of these local patient services and programs. The Colleges Against Cancer leadership, as well as myself, would like to make one more request for the 2008 season- that each team member work alone or together with their former Relay team or with a whole new group of individuals to raise an additional $25 through your event Website www.events.cancer.org/rflumd up until August 31, 2008 when our fiscal year closes. If each team member chips in your event will reach its goal- which is only a thousand shy of success!

How you can help:

-  Send out emails to everyone you know and ask for a $10 donation.

-  Get fit and accept pledges to walk, bike or swim an extended distance.

-  Give up two nights out and donate the monies online that were saved.

-  Sell luminaria online for the 2009 season- it is never too early to start!

I know that summer vacation is almost to an end and all of you are looking forward to a few more days of basking in the sun, shopping, hanging out with friends and whatnot but I really need each of you to pull together to help support this event and all the services it provides. I greatly appreciate everyone’s help and I look forward to seeing all of you this Fall as you register for the 2009 Relay For Life and Colleges Against Cancer Committee.
